In high profile cases, with the approval of the presiding judge of the oral argument panel, we may consider requests from journalists or media representatives for reserved seating in the courtroom. Call 504-310-7700 for information about the possibility of reserved seating.
Fifth Circuit Rule 34.7 provides that no cameras, tape recorders, or other equipment designed for the recording or transmission of visual images or sound may be present during oral argument. Media representatives, like others attending oral arguments, must turn off all cell phones, laptop computers, and similar electronic devices when in the courtroom. You may not blog, tweet, or otherwise transmit contemporaneous or live transcription or observations from the courtroom.
Oral arguments are recorded and made available on the court's web site shortly after the court session ends. You may download a copy of the audio file free of charge.
The decorum and dignity of the court, the courtroom, and judicial proceedings must be maintained at all times. Court customs shall be followed, including appropriate attire. Movement in the courtroom during the proceedings shall be limited. Disruption of proceedings will not be permitted.
